Hello

I believe that everything is an act of communication—and the pattern beneath it all is story. Every subject we teach is a story. Every student is its protagonist. And every moment in the classroom is an opportunity for discovery: of self, of others, of the world. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that my work lives at the intersection of three callings:

• Writing fiction for children that explores cultural heritage, identity, and belonging.
• Inspiring young writers to become through their words.
• Coaching teachers to shape classrooms as narrative spaces.

My Story

I'm a Dominican writer and educator who writes stories from home—in a second language.

My work explores cultural identity, belonging, and the journey to finding oneself and becoming one’s own home. My stories always carry pieces of the Dominican Republic, a reflection of my deep connection to my roots. But it wasn’t always this way. For a long time, that connection felt shallow—so, so shallow.

Embracing my roots has been a journey—a path that took me from ignorance to shame and, finally, to self-awareness and pride. Now, through my stories, I hope to share that journey with others, inviting readers to experience the beauty and complexity of navigating life between worlds and to explore the universal quest for identity and belonging.

If you’re curious about how this storytelling lens has shaped my role as an educator, I invite you to read my blog post: The Shape of Learning.
